The Philosophy Behind How We Travel

Travel has taught us that countries are never just their stereotypes. They are not simply “safe” or “unsafe,” “rich” or “poor,” “friendly” or “dangerous.” The media is often fueled by fear, thats something I hear a lot. Real experience is fueled by presence, curiosity, and human connection.
The more we travel, the more we realize that the world isn’t actually foreign. It’s our own assumptions about what is “normal” that make everything else feel unfamiliar.

The more history we learn, the more obvious it becomes that nothing really exists in isolation. Every place, culture, conflict, and tradition is connected to decisions made long before we ever arrived. Understanding the world means understanding those connections.
Modern life asks us to move faster than our minds and bodies were ever built to. Yet some of the most valuable lessons we’ve learned came from places where slowing down isn’t seen as falling behind, it’s simply a different way of living. Those moments remind us that not everything modern automatically means progress.

And maybe the biggest realization of all: the more we see, the more we understand how little we actually know.

For us, travel has never been about ticking countries off a list or staying in luxury resorts, even though it seems to be a trend right now. It’s about people, stories, history, culture, and the invisible systems we live within without even noticing. It’s about the identities we inherit and rarely question.

Travel gives us something far more valuable than passport stamps: perspective. And perspective changes not only how you see the world, but also how you see yourself.

We know that not everyone has the privilege to explore the world this way, and we don’t take that for granted. We are the first in our families to have the opportunity to do this, and that comes with responsibility.

This space exists to share our experiences, our mistakes, our discoveries, and the perspectives we gain along the way.

If our journey encourages even one person to question assumptions, look a little deeper, or experience the world with more curiosity, then it’s already worth it.

Welcome to our journey.

Sometimes you don’t even realize in the moment that something important just happened. That is exactly what happened to us in Medellín. We…

    Writing This From Puerto Rico

I’m writing this from Puerto Rico, and I already know that one day I will probably read these words again and remember exactly what this part of our journey felt like. Maybe I’ll be sitting somewhere with Jay, maybe we’ll have a family of our own, and we’ll look back at the time when we…

  • Our First Impressions of Medellín

We booked our flights to Medellín pretty spontaneously. By the time we were actually on our way, I think both of us were a little nervous. Medellín is one of those places where you hear a lot of different things before you go. We had heard the usual stories about safety, crime and everything else…
