About Us

Hey, we’re Jay & Fabienne

We met on vacation in the Dominican Republic.
A place that was supposed to be just another trip became the start of our love story.
When we said goodbye, we went back to two different lives on two different continents.
Jay returned to the United States. Fabienne flew back to Germany.
Most people would’ve called it a vacation romance.
We didn’t.
What followed was a time of long-distance calls, airport reunions,
countdowns to the next visit and more flights than we can count. It wasn’t always easy,
and there were plenty of moments when the distance felt impossible.
But somehow, what started on a beach in the Dominican Republic turned into a life built together.

That photo is us in Colombia
Two people who took a chance on something that didn’t make much sense on paper.

Over the years, we’ve collected passport stamps, fridge magnets, unforgettable memories,
and countless stories from places we never imagined we’d visit together.
Every trip reminds us how far we’ve come from that first meeting.
And honestly, we’re still a little surprised by it ourselves sometimes.

💛 Why Oceans Apart?

Because that’s where we started.
Not as a concept, not as a brand, but as reality.
An ocean literally separated us. Different countries, different routines, different lives. For a long time, distance wasn’t something we talked about.
It was something we lived. But over time, it became more than that.

“Oceans Apart” is a reminder of what we went through, but also of what it taught us: That timing can change everything.
That connection doesn’t care about geography.
And that something real doesn’t disappear just because it’s far away.
Today, it’s not just about distance anymore.
It’s about everything that grew because of it.

✈️ Why We Travel

At first, travel was just how we saw each other.
Now it’s how we experience life together.
We’re not really chasing destinations. We’re chasing moments, the ones you can’t plan. Getting lost in new cities, changing plans last minute, finding places we didn’t research, and conversations with people we didn’t expect to meet.
Those are the parts that stay.
Not the perfect photos. Not the itinerary.
Just the feeling of being somewhere new, together.
